FANUC TX-1424AB 14-inch CRT to LCD Upgrade Guide
The FANUC TX-1424AB is a 14-inch colour CRT display module. It appears on FANUC controls alongside the A61L-0001 series part numbers, and the two labelling systems describe overlapping hardware: the TX-1424AB label and the A61L-0001-0074 part number both identify a 14-inch colour display module with a 20-pin Honda MR-20M interface and a DC 24V supply.
That matters when you order. If your CRT carries the TX-1424AB label, the module in this guide is the one that fits β there is no need to convert the label to an A61L number first, and no need to send the old unit in for exchange.
TX-1424AB Cross-Reference
The same 14-inch colour FANUC display hardware is sold under more than one label. Use the table to find the entry that matches the marking on your CRT.
| Label on Your Display | CRT Type | Connector | Supply | Replacement | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FANUC TX-1424AB | 14" Colour CRT | 20-pin Honda MR-20M | DC 24V | 12.1" TFT-LCD | $299 |
| FANUC A61L-0001-0074 | 14" Colour CRT | 20-pin Honda MR-20M | DC 24V | 12.1" TFT-LCD | $299 |
| Matsushita TX-1450AB | 14" Colour CRT | Matched to your original | AC 110V-220V | 12.1" TFT-LCD | $299 |
Two cautions on this table. First, the FANUC-labelled TX-1424AB and A61L-0001-0074 are the same hardware class β 20-pin Honda MR-20M, DC 24V β so either label takes the same module. Second, the Matsushita TX-1450AB is a different electrical design: it runs on an AC 110V-220V mains supply rather than DC 24V, and its connector arrangement is matched to your original unit rather than published as a fixed pin count. The replacement is still $299, but confirm the supply and connector from photographs before ordering that variant. If the label is faded or missing, photograph the connector and the bezel opening and we will identify it for you.

TX-1424AB CRT vs Kongto LCD β Technical Comparison
| Specification | Original FANUC CRT | Kongto LCD Upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Display Technology | 14-inch Colour CRT | 12.1-inch TFT-LCD Industrial Panel |
| Resolution | 640x480 | 800x600 |
| Brightness | ~200 cd/m2 | 400 cd/m2 |
| Lifespan | ~15,000 hrs | 50,000+ hrs |
| Power | DC 24V | DC 24V (original) |
| Interface | 20-pin Honda MR-20M | 20-pin Honda (direct compatible) |
| Safety | High voltage (10-15kV) | Low voltage DC |
| Weight | β | 1.5 kg |
Brightness roughly doubles, from about 200 cd/m2 to 400 cd/m2. That is the change operators notice first on a shop floor with overhead lighting: the original CRT had to be viewed close to head-on, while the LCD stays readable from an angle and does not wash out under bright light.
What Fails on a 14-inch FANUC Colour CRT
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Repairable? | Solution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colour drift or a tint across the screen | Shadow mask or gun imbalance | No | LCD upgrade |
| One colour missing or weak | Cathode wear on a single gun | No | LCD upgrade |
| Dim picture, needs a dark room | Phosphor and cathode aging | No | LCD upgrade |
| Convergence error, coloured fringes on text | Deflection yoke drift | Rarely, by adjustment | LCD upgrade |
| Black screen with power present | Flyback transformer or high-voltage failure | Sometimes | LCD upgrade (removes HV section) |
| Whine or arcing sound | Aging high-voltage insulation | No | LCD upgrade (safety) |
Colour CRTs add a failure mode that monochrome units do not have: each of the three guns wears at its own rate, so a display can stay bright while the colour balance walks off over months. By the time the picture looks wrong, the tube is the worn part and there is nothing left to adjust.

Installation Steps
1. Isolate the Machine
Switch off the CNC and lock out the supply. The CRT stores high voltage even when the control is off β allow one minute for the capacitors to discharge.
2. Record the Label
Photograph the TX-1424AB label and the cable routing before disassembly. Send us the photo if you want the fit confirmed against your control.
3. Extract the CRT
Remove the bezel and the CRT mounting screws, then slide the unit out. Disconnect the 20-pin Honda MR-20M plug and the DC 24V wires.
4. Mount the 12.1-inch Panel
Fit the LCD module into the supplied frame, which fills the original 14-inch bezel opening. Secure with the original fasteners.
5. Connect and Verify
Reconnect the 20-pin Honda connector and DC 24V, restore power and start the control. Confirm the picture, then set brightness on the module.
Installation runs 10 to 15 minutes and needs no soldering. Because the module keeps the DC 24V rail and the MR-20M interface unchanged, the control sees the same signal it always did and no CNC parameters are touched.
Frequently Asked Questions
A: They identify the same 14-inch colour display family. The modules are configured to their own listings, so order against the label actually printed on your CRT.
A: Neither. The TX-1424AB module runs from the original DC 24V display supply in the cabinet, exactly as the CRT did.
A: No. The module is supplied with a mounting frame that fills the original 14-inch bezel opening, so the front of the cabinet looks finished, not adapted.
A: Yes. The swap takes 10 to 15 minutes and does not disturb programs, offsets or parameters, so it can be scheduled inside a normal maintenance window.
A: The 12.1-inch LCD module, its mounting frame and the interface cabling needed for the 20-pin Honda MR-20M connection. Contact us if your machine needs a specific cable length.
