KME CNC Display CRT to LCD Custom Replacement — Case Study
KME industrial displays are found on various CNC equipment and specialized machinery. When these CRTs fail, finding exact replacements is challenging due to discontinued production and non-standard interfaces. This case study covers successful custom LCD replacements for multiple KME display models, including the 17DM14AF03 and 26S10M004.
The Challenge
Two different KME displays needed replacement: a 17DM14AF03 with a dim/failing backlight, and a 26S10M004 (9-inch) that had completely lost display output. Both used non-standard signal connectors that couldn't be directly driven by off-the-shelf LCD monitors. The equipment was critical to production, and extended downtime was not acceptable.

The Solution
For each KME model, we reverse-engineered the signal interface and developed a custom LCD module with matching pinout. The 9-inch 26S10M004 was replaced with a drop-in 9-inch TFT LCD using the existing connector. For the 17DM14AF03, a custom adapter harness was created to bridge the non-standard connector to the LCD. Both solutions preserved the original mounting and required zero equipment modifications.

Results
- Both KME displays restored to full operation within one week
- Zero modifications to the host equipment
- Brightness improved 2x over the original CRT
- LED backlight rated for 50,000+ hours
- Both solutions fully reversible
