FAGOR 8055/8050 CNC CRT to LCD Custom Replacement — Case Study

FAGOR 8055 and 8050 CNC controls are widely used on milling machines, lathes, and machining centers across Europe and Asia. Their built-in CRT displays are a known weak point — after 10-15 years, the CRT tubes dim, colors drift, and the high-voltage section becomes unreliable. This case study shows a successful FAGOR 8055 CRT-to-LCD conversion using a custom 10.4-inch replacement module.

The Challenge

The customer operated several FAGOR 8055-controlled machining centers. Three units had CRT failures within the same month — two with dim/faded displays and one completely dead. FAGOR no longer supplies CRT replacements for these models. Quoted control swap costs exceeded $4,000 per machine plus weeks of downtime. The customer needed a fast, reliable, cost-effective solution that restored full display functionality without replacing the entire control.

The Solution

We developed a custom 10.4-inch TFT LCD replacement specifically for the FAGOR 8055/8050 display interface. The module reads the FAGOR's RGB/TTL video signal directly — no external converter, no frame grabber, no software changes. The LCD panel mounts using the original CRT housing holes with a precision adapter bracket. DC 24V power is drawn from the same rail the CRT used. The result is a completely reversible upgrade that requires zero modifications to the CNC control.

Installation & Results

The replacement was performed on all three machines in a single day. Each installation took approximately 20 minutes: power down, remove CRT bezel, disconnect signal and power, mount LCD with adapter bracket, reconnect, power up. All three FAGOR 8055 controls displayed correctly on first power-on. The operators reported dramatically improved readability — the 400 cd/m² LCD was more than twice as bright as the worn CRTs, with perfect geometry and zero flicker at 60 Hz.
